Inversion

Photobucket

As a photographer, there is no better sun filter than when we have an inversion, but our allergies think the opposite. This is just a part of our life in the city of Bountiful. We've been living under this inversion for a few days now and we are feeling it. What I love about this photo is that it is not photo shopped, like at all! Although it might make for a cool photograph, winter inversions (or as I call it, Dementor weather since we're such harry potter fans) are actually quite disgusting. Inversions occur during winter months when normal conditions (cool air above, warm air below) are inverted. Inversions trap a dense layer of cold air under a layer of warm air. They act much like a lid, trapping pollutants within the cold air near the valley floor. The longer the inversion lasts, the stronger the pollutants concentrate within it.
